Gaukushon Ensamble

Gaukushon Ensamble

The religious Gaukushon Ensamble - is one of the largest ensambles of the city center of Bukhara. Gaukushon meanas the “killing of bulls”, in the past this place used to be a carnage later on replaced by becoming a trading center.

In the 16th century there were huge madrasahs built in this area. A mosque with a high and very wide diameter minaret.  Thus the Madrasah "Khoja Kalon" was built in 1570 with its trapezoid shape, which, incidentally, did not prevent to preserve the traditional yard scheme. In 1598 a mosque (Masjid-i Jami) was built from the north of the madrasah, called "Khoja Mosque".
